PROM

On Wednesday, I had my Year 13 Prom. At first, I was really unexcited; stressing about what type of dress to wear and questioning whether the night itself was going to be good. The word 'Prom' always makes me think about American High Schools going really OTT and girl's dresses resembling something between a meringue and candyfloss (both food references...I don't know whether that explains my current state of mind or theirs). In American Proms, girls always have dates and you can pretty much guarantee the existence of a slow dance.
In my Prom, most girls didn't bring dates, dresses were more 'maxi' than 'meringue' and a slow dance was replaced with rapping to Professor Green. This contributed to the night beating all of my expectations and for the first time since I've finished my exams, I actually missed Sixth Form.
My dress was from Ebay, I mean...er...Vera Wang ;) It cost less than fifty pound and I used old shoes and a friend's bag. Whoever said you had to spend hundreds of pounds on Prom was lying! I did get my hair done though as I wanted soft roller curls (which I can never get right) and wanted to make sure it wasn't going to fall out half way through the night. My make-up, to most people's surprise, I did myself. I looked one of my favourite blogs; 'Musings of a Make Up Manic' and scrolled through different posts to see which look I thought was suitable. It took me a while, but I was really pleased with the result! Now I just have to figure out whether to sell my dress or keep it. Can a girl wear a dress more than once?

SOMETHING NEW #2

Outfit 1
Peplum Top - Topshop
Jeans - Topshop
Necklace - Miss Selfridge
Bag - Marc B

Outfit 2
Mint Shirt - Priamrk
Jeans - Topshop
Bag - Marc B

I couldn't do another post on a Marc B bag (however much I wanted to) as I'd look like their official mascot so I decided to post it with a few other bits too. This is the 'Paris Nouveau' bag and although it may not be the classic quilted Chanel, it has similar characteristics. Clutch bags are becoming seriously overrated in my eyes; a drink in one hand and a bag in the other is a recipe for disaster. The 'Paris Nouveau' bag solves this problem due to it being a shoulder bag and it definitely doesn't sacrifice anything in the process - still being beautiful and stylish.

The peplum top was a risky buy for me as I wasn't sure if it was going to suit my figure very well. After having time to fully analyse its look, I'm beginning to think peplum tops actually suit all body shapes. I paired this with my one of few chunky necklaces which makes it look a little more interesting, I think.

Primark has always been pretty hit and miss for me which is the most frustrating thing ever considering everyone else in the world manages to find amazing buys. I was pretty skeptical when I walked in to the shop but I found this beautiful sheer mint blouse which was only 8 pound! I was so impressed, I bought it in white aswell. I believe there is hope yet to be found.

As a quick aside I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for not posting regularly. I've had my A Levels to get through and so for the past month/two months (which honestly feels like my entire life), I've been killing myself with revision. However I am now officially free and therefore I hope I can post a little bit more than I usually do! x

GEEK CHIC?

Going to the opticians always makes me laugh and my most recent visit was no exception. I had to have drops put in my eyes to make my vision blurry so my true prescription could be taken. Within five minutes, trying on glasses became pointless as I couldn't see my reflection and a text to my friend went something like 'ysss hree noiuw,.; set you lstwr'. This only got worse. My optician was rather good looking and so when the rooms goes dark and he has that torch shining in your eyes whilst his face gets pretty close to yours, hot flushes are a regular occurrance. With the drops, it didn't look like he was testing my eyes but rather going in for a kiss. Oh I Wish. This would be highly unrealistic considering one's most attractive look is not sitting in a chair wearing plastic glasses that look a cross between the old fashioned 3D glasses and Albert Einstein's.

These are the glasses I ended up choosing. I know the whole 'geek chic' look is really on-trend at the moment but after trying on countless pairs of Ray Ban's I realised it really wasn't for me. I ended up with this Dior pair which are slightly geeky but slightly more subtle. I also like the tortoise-shell look as it's less harsh against my hair colour. Now i'm just hoping I look like one of those people who looks 'stylish' in glasses, and not plain ridiculous.
