'Smart Casual'

I hear the term 'smart casual' quite frequently and to be honest, I hate it. It doesn't clarify the dress code in question, nor does it inspire ground-breaking ideas for an outfit. The eliminating items consist of - no sweatpants (obviously), no baggy/torn t-shirts (unless you work in a 'fashion-house' maybe), a hoody and a suit. I am non the wiser.

My usual go-to smart casual pieces are black jeans, 'nice' tops, skirts and dresses. It's easy to dress up a simple jean outfit with jewellery and a smart bag, and it's easy to dress down a dress or skirt by layering it with a jumper. Collars are also a great way to make a casual outfit, 'smart', as it gives that 'business' impression.

The one thing I can advise is to check how transparent your items of clothing are. Upon posting this blog, I came to realise that I should have worn a t-shirt under my jumper...now there's professionalism if ever I've seen it.
